The polypropylene used in the Metal Detectable Range has been specially formulated. While the plastic looks, feels and works like any normal plastic, it displays two major additional features. First, independent tests show the plastic, or fragements of it, may be detected by properly calibrated metal detectors, running at full production speed. This is of particular interest in food production lines. A special test kit (#MDS1) is available to assist with calibration. Second, the plastic does not build up any significant static charge. This means that it can be used safely in areas where there are inflammable vapors, or high concentrations of dry dust (for example in sugar of flour mills). In tests on this plastic, no electro static discharges were detected. The additive used in the production of the plastic is FDA approved.
